Questions

Who is this for?

Self-employed sole traders with takings under £90,000 a year: tradespeople, drivers, cleaners, consultants, creatives and anyone else working for themselves. If you have a limited company, or something more complicated, Dom will tell you before you pay.

How do I submit it?

You submit it yourself on HMRC's free online service, with every figure laid out box by box and a copy button for each. It takes about ten minutes, and Dom walks you through HMRC's screens if you get stuck. Submitting straight from JustDom is coming.

Do I need my UTR?

Your Unique Taxpayer Reference (10 digits, on letters from HMRC). If you've never registered for Self Assessment, we'll show you how; HMRC posts it within about 10 days.

Is my bank data safe?

Bank connections are read only through Open Banking: we can see transactions, never move money. Your data is private to you. Nobody else sees your reviewing your return.

What about expenses I paid in cash?

Add them in a step at the end, along with business mileage and working from home, which most people forget to claim.
